The Great Controversy’s Final Conflict
by Dionne Sabbay Thompson ( December 25, 2008 )
The prophetic messages from Daniel 1 to Revelations 22, begin in a city of iniquity and confusion, Babylon, also known as Assyria or Chaldea, progressing into Papal Rome. Revelations 12 begins at the apocalyptic timeline, as we study the Seven Churches (Rev 1:11,20). We are now at the Seventh church, the Laodicean Church, (Rev 3:14,15). The Great Controversy will be completed on this earth, as the battlefield is the earth, fought and won by Christ (John 19:30). Within Revelations 12 we see the battle extending unto the ending of time on present Earth. The church of Ephesus, the first of seven, began on Earth in approximately 27 AD following the Messiah’s baptism (Eph. 2:20-21, Desire of Ages pg 141.2). The war began in Heaven, causing Satan and his demons to be cast out (Rev. 12:4). Satan succeeding in deceiving Adam, took control of the earth (Rom. 5:12,18; 2Cor. 4:4). The work, a responsibility of God’s people, emphasizes the importance of teaching the Gospel message, requiring the full co-operation of His last day brotherly, loving, Church, Philadelphia, ( Ephesians 4:12,13; Rev. 3:7,8 ). True Adventism is the Church of Philadelphia, repentant in nature, preparing for their redemption from present Earth. Thus we must appreciate the calling of God, as we are called to experience, live and be in full submission to the Will of God unto sealing, bringing this great Controversy to an end (Ephesians 4:30). Without the remnant’s co-operation, God can not finish this work. We must thus respond to God’s calling, appreciating and completing this final chore.
Christ understood that everything in His life was sub-ordinate to the Will of His Father while on earth. Similarly we must exercise this same motto, remaining sub-ordinate to the Will of God, modeled by the Messiah. The Work will not be finished until Christ finds a body of believers, 144,000 in number with His name in their foreheads (Rev 14:1), accepting the above principle as the one governing principle in their lives. The former rain, the Day of Pentecost, and all the Seven Churches failed because God’s work has been put on the “back burner” (Acts 2:1-8 ). Materialism, selfishness and earthly, worldly possessions have been placed before the Work of God, thus the Work remains unfinished. Conversely, Christ while experiencing great hunger, chose to put God’s work before even His appetite (Matthew 4:1-4). God’s Work must be accomplished.
Revelations 12:1 edifies that a woman is the church, as the the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:2 and Ephesians 5:21-33, speaks of the marriage unit (Christ, the Head; and the church, the body of Christ) being a model of a PERFECT union. As the body of Christ, a perfect marriage is a perfect union with Christ (Eph. 4:12,13). The marriage is one union: this teaching model is the prototype that we must understand regarding the symbiotic relationship between the body of Christ and the Messiah, God.
The stars represent the angels Revelations 1:20. As long as the church is in an unrelenting relationship with Christ, wearing His righteousness, Satan will be trampled under foot (Isaiah 64:6, Phil 3:9-11). When ancient Israel failed to submit to God’s Will, they were captured by Babylon, remaining captive for 70 years (Daniel 1). Satan separated the church again later causing the Romish reign following the abomination and desolation in 70 ad (Mark 13:14, Matthew 24:15). If Satan had his way, the dark ages would have never ended, as he is the prince of Darkness (Ephesians 6:11-13). Daniel 9:24 shows us that the probation of the children of Israel expired exactly 70 weeks following the degree from Artaxerxes to rebuild the temple in 457BC. Understanding that one week in biblical terminology represents seven calendar years, as one day is equivalent to one literal year in prophecy (Numbers 14:34, Ezekiel 4:6). Consequently, spiritual Jews are now God’s chosen, manifesting His Divine Character and Obedience (Exodus 20, Ezra 7:12-20, Rev 14:4,5, 12).
The dragon is Satan (Rev 12:3). The Church of God will always be opposed by Satan. Whenever the Work of God starts unto completion, Satan moves forward, setting forth work that opposes its closure. Satan while on the Earth has been attempting to destroy the woman and her manchild (Rev 12:17). Rev 12:4 edifies that there was no greater satanic activity than the death degree, made at the point of Christ’s birth. However, following the Messiah’s birth, the Heavenly angels guarded Him. A Christian Carol was sang by angels, hymns giving glory to the Son of God, saying peace and goodwill to all men; yet not occurring on pagan December 25th as some falsely teach. December 25th, a deceptive date, is the birthday of Tammuz, a pagan sungod (Ezekiel 8:14).
Satan is outnumbered by one third in angelic army yet amazingly Christ’s Work has not yet been completed. Satan and his inferior one third of angel’s army have amazingly prevented God’s work from its completion. One third of the angels fell with Satan in his defection (Rev 12:4). Satan’s effort to destroy the Work of God can be seen in Daniel Chapter 7:1-28 as one beast having Seven heads ( Babylon 606 BC – Papal Rome, until 1798 when Papal Rome was wounded by France). We will be in a state of godless ideology until the wound of Papal Rome heals which is imminent. Utilizing earthly Babylonian kingdoms, Satan has repeatedly used anti-christ dogma, opposing the work of God (2John 1:7). By the time that Christ was born, Satan through the Kingdom of Pagan rome, (Caesar Augustus leading into King Herod) attempted to kill the Messiah, the greatest demonic activity ever to visit this Earth. More specifically, King Herod, a successor to Caesar Augustus’ throne, passed a rule to kill all the young babies (2 years old and younger) as soon as they were born. Satan worked through Herod, attempting to kill the son of God. Securing the Son of God’s safety, the Most High thus directed Mary and Joseph to flee into Egypt, obediently remaining there until Herod died. Satan’s efforts were proven unsuccessful. This is a message of surety that we too can have Divine protection during the Times of Trouble and Jacob’s Time of Trouble (Rev 13:16-18, Rev 16).
Satan and his angels were cast out of Heaven primarily because they wanted to change the Word of God. However, the Rod of iron can not be changed: God can not change His Word, as it is an expression of His mind, as He is Perfect and Infinite (Mal 3:6, Heb 13:8, James 1:17). Revelations 12:5 edifies that Christ’s life was governed by the Word of God, thus He was never overcome by the world, never having the propensity to sin (John 16:33). Similarly, we must have our minds fixed on the Word of God, allowing us to overcome sin (1John 3:9). The Word of God must be FIXED within our hearts, unto our SEALING, preventing us from being overcome by sin, even in thought (Gal 4:19, Col 1:27, Eph. 4:30, Rev 7:1-4).
We must maintain a firm commitment, living by every Word that comes from God. Christ utilizing the WORD “It is Written” was able to overcome sin COMPLETELY. Satan could not overcome Christ because He was ruled by God’s rod of iron (Rev 12:5, 19:15). WE MUST BE IMMOVABLE IN A SEALING RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, STANDING IN THE HOUR OF TEST AND TRIAL. We must live our lives on the Earth in alliance with the Word of God. Christ was crucified yet His resurrection was sure because sin had no dominion over Him, thus He was caught up to the Throne of God. Revelations 3:21 edifies that he that overcometh will be reserved a seat at the Father’s Throne. Christ was caught up to the Throne of the Father because He overcame sin. God can not compromise HIS WORD, otherwise He compromises His government and the entire universe (Mal. 3:6, Heb 13:8, James 1:17).
Revelations 12:6 edifies that after the ascension of Christ, the Messiah, Satan was able to focus his attention on the “woman” the “church”, determined to prevent the Lord from achieving His purpose through His Church (Eph. 4:12,13). Remembering that the body of Christ must follow the Head, as we are made in the image of God, and our body is the vehicle of fulfilling God’s wishes and desires. Christ, the Head of the Church, has achieved His purpose, but the Body of Christ MUST follow suit (John 19:30). The time period of 1260 is mentioned 7 times in the bible and 7 is the number of completion, emphasizing the completeness of the Scriptures in Prophecy, highlighting the delay of God’s WORK and closure (Daniel 7:25; 12:7; Rev 11:2,3; 12:6,14; 13:5). From Ephesus to Laodicea, the church fell away from Truth, the Word,: Ephesus was the head of the Disciples, leading into Christ’s ascension. After Christ’s ascension, the church went into its bad habits. A Red Horse exemplifies that Persecution kept the church pure, until the Church began to Compromise, causing a Black Horse and balance (compromise), later leading into the Pale Horse, when the church became spiritually dead (Rev 6:1-8). Because of Compromise, the church died. The church, the Woman, fled into the “Wilderness” because the Body of Christ separated from Christ following the Compromise, symbolized by a balance in scripture (Rev 6:5, Rev 12:6). The 1260 years was as a result of the church separating from the Head, Christ; affecting God’s Work. Our forefather’s, mismanagement of the first watch was caused by rejecting the Lord’s ways. We are to follow all of God’s principles, which CAN NOT be changed. If we give Satan any leeway, he will prevent the Work of God from its completion. We must learn God’s Principles and Character (Exodus 20), preventing the mystery of iniquity from developing, as God’s Word will NOT return to Him void, and He will not be mocked (Isa. 55:11, Gal. 6:7, 8 ).
Revelations 12:7 edifies that there was a war in Heaven, exemplifying type and anti-type; therefore it remains difficult for us to learn what is happening in Heaven. 1 Cor 2:9 shows us that we CAN NOT IMAGINE Heaven, because God’s thoughts are not the same as our ways (Isaiah 55:8,9). His language is vastly different from our language. The war in Heaven is revealed in Self-sacrificing love (Phil 2:5) this verse edifies us that we must be humble, meek and lowly, even unto death (Zech. 9:9, Matt 11:29). This principle was detested and refuted by Satan and his angels. Isa. 14:12 relates to Rev. 12:7 identifying that the war was a war of Principles, as Satan exhibiting self-exaltation, caused a falling away from Truth, The WORD, thus he was cast out of Heaven (Rev 12:4). Satan’s principles expressed a desire to be equal to God (Isaiah 14:14). Satan’s war with God was one of Principles. Satan’s Principle was one of Selfishness, causing a CONFLICT with the Heavenly Principles. The differing principles between the Will of God and satan’s selfish will however, was not manifested as a physical, combative war involving guns or swords. Satan brought in a conflicting principle of selfishness against God’s Loving nature (1John 4:7). This war created a division in Heaven, between those that sympathized with Satan and God’s remaining two third of angels.
Sadly, Adam and Eve fell into Satan’s trap as they too opted to exalt themselves as gods being seduced by Satan, later becoming mortal beings (Gen. 3:6-17). Glory be to God, as Christ, the Son of God, met mankind in its fallen, sinful state, becoming the Second and Last Adam, a Quickening Spirit; teaching love and Self-sacrifice in Humility, trampling Satan’s Principle of Selfishness ( 1Cor. 15:45-58 ). WE MUST THUS ACCEPT THE PRINCIPLE OF CHRIST’S PERFECT GIFT OF CHARACTER AND LOVE, PUTTING ON HIS RIGHTEOUS ROBE, FOLLOWING HIS DIVINE MODEL (John 3:16, Phil 3:9-11).
As the battle between good and evil proceeds, God’s people advancing in Sanctification, observe the unfolding of History’s final events. The Sealing Power of God and its infinite, perfection secures those honoring the Ten Commandments, embracing the faith of the Messiah, Jesus Christ (Isaiah 8:20, Rev 14:12). The most salient part of this moment in time, relates to the forthcoming Mark of the Beast, Enforced National Sunday Law, a tool which will be activated by the adversary Satan once, God’s people are securely sealed. At that point, Satan will have no other recourse but, to move forward, changing times and laws, enforcing the now dormant American Sunday law ( Daniel 7:25, Rev 12:17, Rev 13:11-18 ). The Sealing mark by the Living God, requires that saints establish and maintain a obedient, fixed, unchanging, absolute sin-free and completely surrendered life, through the gift of the Messiah’s righteousness (Deut 6:8, Rev 7:1-4). Enoch, living within a sin infested society similar to ours during his times, was able to accomplish Victory over sin, and he was later redeemed from the earth (Gen 5:24, 6:5). Be encouraged, as persecution will purify God’s remnant (Mal 3:1-3).
The harvest must be ripe in order for the Reaper and His administration to return. As we are in a new cycle of God’s work, remembering that our Creator will not be mocked and His Word will not return to Him void (Isa. 55:11, Gal 6:7). Our Maker will not accept or receive any soul that is not perfect in character, as gold tried in the fire (Zech. 13:9, Mal. 3:1-3, Matt 5:48, 1John 3:9, 1 Peter 1:7). God detests lukewarmness and thus, He will find messengers who are righteous and worthy to deliver the TRUTH (Rev 3:7.8,14,15). The Apostle Paul, an inspired writer and Prophet, wrote about the consequences resulting from the rejection of the Everlasting Gospel, as without it, we will not be able to overcome sin, resulting in bondage (Rom. 1:18-32). There is only one Everlasting Gospel (Romans 1).
There are four watches in one generation. As a generation is 40 years, a watch is 10 years (Luke 12:35-38, Heb 3:7-11). The first and second watch are the most favorable as that is when zealous, accelerated works are the most apparent within the harvest. Every generation contains 4 watches and there is danger foreseen that results in missing the first or second watch, as what ye sow, that ye shall also reap (Exodus 20:5, Ecl. 8:5,6; Matt 13:37-39; Luke 12:35,38; Gal 6:7-9). As the shaking process proceeds in the church, it causes an opportune time for spiritual advancement, as the calling is fresh, conducive for harvest ripeness “the ear”, later to be fully nourished by the latter rain, forming the “full corn in the ear” (Zech 10:1, Mark 4:26-29, James 5:7).
The Mark of the Beast, Enforced Sunday Law, was foreseen by the Prophet EGW, who was given light in the 1800’s regarding this serious matter (Great Controversy chapter 35). Satan has been on this earth like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour ( 1Pet. 5:8 ). Where God is not in control, Satan ensnares souls who have lost their connection with the Creator (Great Controversy Chapter 32). As the Messiah remains in the most Holy place, interceding and mediating on behalf of those who call on His name for the remission of sins, Satan seeks to utilize measures of temptation and persecution, to diminish their faith (Matt 26:28, 1Tim. 2:5) . God’s people remaining faithful, seek only the reassurance of the Most High, as they live daily without fear or panic, regarding the forthcoming trials and tribulation, as God does not cause a spirit of fear (2Tim. 1:7, Rev 16). God has promised His people that their HIDDEN MANNA, food and water shall be sure, as the righteous will never be forsaken or their seed begging bread (Exo. 16:31, Num. 11:7, Psa. 37:25, Rev 2:17). Once, Enforced Sunday law, the Mark of the Beast, takes its position and protocol, worldly, Babylonian, Principalities will prevent the remnant’s ability to buy or sell, but God promises livelihood resources ( Rev 13:11-18 ).
The Administration of God has all power, thus the Heavenly angel’s of the Lord have been watching, awaiting the advancement of time, hastening the return of the Messiah, Christ Jesus. Holy angels are anxious to see the vindication of the Savior who defeated satan, a liar and murderer, at the cross where it was “FINISHED” (John 19:30). Heavenly angel’s flying in the midst of heaven, bellowing the Three Angel’s messages, have long awaited the moment in time when sin can be completely eradicated from the face of this earth (Rev 14:6-12, Rev 18:1-4). Following the Millennium, God’s people will return to the earth, where they will spend eternity (Rev 20:4-15). The heavenly administration recalls those martyred for the Word, Christ Jesus: and their reward is sure (Acts 22:20, Rev 2:13, Rev 20:4, Rev 6:9-11).
The 144,000, God’s remnant and harvest, are now preparing their temples, as they watch their diets, abstaining from those unhealthful behaviors that will ultimately prevent them from withstanding trials and tribulation, without Christ, the Intercessor (Daniel 12:1,2; 1Cor 6:19; Rev 6:17). Those who watch and wait, identifying the signs of the times; indicators pointing to the Final Crisis on the Earth, are humble, meek and lowly, cognizant of the Word and its Power (Matt 5:5, 11:29, Rom 1:20). Most have labeled the Seventh-day Adventist message as cult-like or Babylonian, misunderstanding the true meaning of “Seventh-day Adventist”. By definition, Protestants are those who protest the ways of the Papacy beginning in the Dark ages, which manifested false doctrines that went against Scripture, thus the principle of Protestantism is “Sola Scriptura,” Definitively, the Seventh-day relates to the day of rest, sanctified and hallowed by God in Heaven ( Gen 2:3, Exo. 20:8 ), and the word “Adventist” relates to the second Advent, Christ’s imminent return (1Thess. 4:16,17). Those who seek to change their names, assuming that Seventh-day Adventism is simply a manmade earthly denomination have fully misunderstood the identity of the Seventh-day Adventist movement and people, the True remnant (Rev. 14:12).
As time advances and God’s people seek to edify the populous about the New Covenant Experience and the True Witness, Christ Jesus the Elijah Message becomes such an important focus (Mal. 4:5,6). The remnant, people of God, are given a reformatory message similar to Elijah, who preached to Ahab and Jezebel. Elijah’s message is related to our End Time messages of revival and reformation, calling the people of God back to the Divinity of God, repentant in nature. John the Baptist, a righteous martyr, preached the Elijah Message, as the people of God need to preach this same message (Matt 3:2,3; Matt 11:9-15). As the remnant are continually working at disseminating the Three Angel’s message, emphasizing the Loud Cry of the fourth angel, who bellows and reinforces, the “Come out of Babylon” call (Rev 18:1-4).
As prophesied, Spiritualism, Ecumenism, Pantheism along with the three unclean spirits as frogs, the Dragon (Satan), the Beast (Papacy, church and state) and the False Prophet (apostate Protestantism), sweep the earth as Satan deceives many (Rev 16:13). The teachings of satanic sun worship, a deceptive practice, upheld by many Protestants, unknowingly, as they seek to find ways to erase, the Ten commandments, has been displeasing to the Creator (Daniel 7:25). God’s heavenly constitution, the Ten Commandments are legal and binding, having authority far greater than earthly beings can imagine, as God’s angels keep the Ten Commandments in heaven. Lucifer was cast out of heaven because of his breech of such a Heavenly ordinance (Ezekiel 28:15, Rev 12:1-4). Thus we must understand the power that the Ten Commandments truly have over all, even those that are not physical descendants of Abraham’s bloodline. The highest calling requires that all take heed of the law and testimony of Christ Jesus (Isa. 8:20, Rev. 12:17).
The entire world will be taught about the precious message of Righteousness by faith: every nation, kindred, tongue and people will know of the eternal power of the Everlasting Gospel (Romans 1:16,17; Phil 3:9; Rev 14:6,7). God, in all fairness, will allow this precious message to reach all, even those who are in distant societies, not well known to mankind (Isa. 45:21). The continents of: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia and Antarctica will be exposed to this precious light, as the Messiah wishes that none were lost (John 3:16,17). God’s work will not return to Him void, as He promises that there will be a remnant, manifesting His character and fruits (Exo. 20, Isa. 55:11;Matt 5:48. Gal 5:22,23; Rev 14:1-5). Let us be found blameless and faultless, guile-free, manifesting unstained, mark-free garments for our Savior who overcame the world for all mankind (John 16:33, 1Thess. 5:23, Jude:24,25; Rev 14:1-5). Be encouraged saints, as we advance in Sanctification, looking unto Glorification, when our Savior shall return, crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lords, promising overcomers a seat at His throne (Rev 3:21,19:11).
